With more than 300 programs at the graduate, undergraduate, and certificate levels, prospective students at the University of Florida have plenty to choose from when looking for their preferred academic path. And with more than 200 of these programs available entirely online, students anywhere in the world can experience life as a Florida Gator and graduate with the same credentials as their on-campus counterparts. In 2019, UF was ranked 5th in the list of Best Online Programs for its Bachelor’s degrees by U.S. News & World Report, a testimony to the quality of the online experience prospective students can expect when they choose to become a Florida Gator.
Degree programs at UF are housed within 16 colleges, including the Levin College of Law, the Warrington College of Business, Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, and the Journalism and Communications College. Students here can earn an undergraduate BSBA in various areas of business, such as economics, finance, and marketing, as well as a BSBA in General Business that can be taken on campus or entirely online.
Within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, students can choose a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in the various engineering fields, including a BS in Oceanographic Engineering that ties closely with other marine disciplines, and a combined BS/MS program that leads to a Master of Science degree in Civil and Coastal Engineering in five years. The BS in Computer Science offered with the Computer Science Department of this college is available completely online as well as on campus.
At the graduate level, students have a wider variety of online options as well as traditional campus offerings. Students can earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) entirely online, as well as Master of Science degrees in various Engineering specialties, a Master of Arts in Mass Communications with several concentrations to choose from, an MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, again with several concentrations to choose from, or an MS in Veterinary Forensic Sciences. Doctoral degrees are available online in Educational Leadership, Nursing Practice, and Higher Education Administration, to name a few. Each of these can also be taken through traditional classroom means if so desired.

University of Florida Accreditation Details
The University of Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges to award degrees ranging from Bachelor to doctoral levels, as well as specialist and professional degrees. In addition, individual colleges and programs are accredited through agencies that oversee their particular subject matter, such as ABET accreditation within the College of Engineering, the School of Architecture’s accreditation through the National Architectural Accreditation Board (NAAB), and the College of Veterinary Medicine’s accreditation through the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education (COE).
University of Florida Application Requirements
The University of Florida takes a holistic approach when considering candidates for admission, looking at prior academic performance and standardized test scores but also a personal essay, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Prospective students apply online and submit the application fee, then forward transcripts of all previous academic work and educational institutions attended, generally high school transcripts or incoming freshmen and previous college transcripts for transfer and graduate applicants.
While minimum GPA and scores are not given for undergraduate admissions, students should still show a strong record of academic success in a college prep high school curriculum and strong test scores on the SAT, ACT, or both. Graduate applicants should demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.0 on all upper-level classwork applied to the baccalaureate degree.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Incoming freshmen and undergraduate transfer students who have proven their in-state residency and attending UF for the first time can expect to pay tuition rates of $212.67 per credit hour. Out-of-state residents attending UF for the first time will pay $955.26 per credit hour. In-state graduate students are assessed $530.83 per credit hour for all graduate-level courses, while out-of-state graduate students pay $1,255.58 per credit hour. Students enrolled in professional programs in certain areas such as dentistry, pharmacy, medicine, and veterinary medicine can expect to pay block fees rather than per-credit assessments.
Students choosing undergraduate studies completely online see significant savings in tuition rates, as in-state residents pay $129.20 per credit hour for online courses, while out-of-state residents pay $552.67 per credit hour. Graduate studies are assessed at the graduate rates regardless of whether the student studies online or on campus.
Financial aid is available for students who need it, including Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarships, other scholarships, grants, work-study programs, and loans. Students are strongly encouraged to fill out the FAFSA for federal aid when they apply for admission, rather than waiting for the admission decision. With so many options for aid available to incoming students, more than half who start at UF are able to graduate without student loan debt. With this in mind, students seeking to soar and make a difference with their lives would do well to consider the University of Florida as a solid launching point.
